We are currently seeking a Paralegal to take on the role of Legal Operations Specialist within our Legal Operations and Legal Leasing Department, based out of our North Bethesda, Maryland office.. The successful candidate will be able to assist with document (including correspondence and certain leasing documents) drafting and negotiation, research, and, in cooperation with Legal Counsel, provide Litigation Support, including first party litigation and third-party claims litigation associated with the day-to-day operation of our shopping centers. This position will also perform legal research on assigned matters and liaison with Divisional Counsel, Legal Leasing Attorneys, and Lease Negotiators within the Department. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work productively in time sensitive situations, manage to deadlines, work in a team environment and prioritize assigned work. This individual must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and draft secondary lease documents, including Letter Agreements, Lease Modification Agreements, Waivers, Discovery Responses for third party premises liability litigation, and review of internal lease documents to assist in-house attorneys with assigned research projects
  • Draft telecommunications agreements and other agreements and license forms as needed
  • Adapt existing forms to specific matters/deals and revise form language based upon comments from tenant and/or attorney
  • Manage intake of tenant insurance information and compliance with lease requirements
  • Collaborate with attorneys, other FRIT departments, and current/potential tenants
  • Investigate and gather information from internal and external sources
  • Draft internal and external correspondence relating to areas of responsibility
  • Analyze and assist with written responses to Tenant Legal Notices, Defaults, and other operational matters
  • Provide administrative, drafting, and research support to Legal Counsel
  • Setup and submit documents for signature using DocuSign
  • Complete other projects and duties related to the foregoing as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5+ years previous experience in a legal department of a real estate company and/or real estate practice group at a law firm
  • College degree or paralegal certificate
  • Demonstrated proficiency using MSOffice (Outlook, Word, Excel) with the ability to learn and use new software and systems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and tasks, and prioritize among various long-term and short-term priorities
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and real estate concepts, and experience with drafting and negotiating commercial real estate leases and/or other related documents
  • Litigation Management experience preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of Non-Disclosure Agreements and/or License Agreements preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of and experience with insured claims and/or litigation processes a plus
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail, with a high degree of accuracy and success in delivering to key deadlines
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment
  • Flexible hours from time to time to be able to support east coast and west coast time zones.

Salary Range: The typical base pay range is $90,000-$100,000 per year plus bonus. To ensure a fair and competitive offer, we take into account your job-related skills, experience, relevant education, certifications, and/or training.
